A couple of days ago while driving through Rockford I witnessed a group of 5 Chimney Swifts flying into the topmost twiggy branches of a dead tree and snapping off twigs while briefly hovering. Nest-building must be underway. I've only seen them actually collecting twigs once before.
There are huge numbers of mosquitoes out - beware!

Cool! About the mosquitoes... I usually am not too bothered by them but they are very brutal right now. Even out on the windy prairie at Deer Run I was being bit up pretty bad!

Just got our first Chimney Swifts in our fireplace chimney. The young seem to be doing well based on the chirping during their feeding. The adults can be seen at dust entering and leaving the chimney. Great to have them around. We will keep the cap off for them and hope they return next year. New Lenox Illinois
