Bell's Vireo ( Vireo bellii )

Season: Mid May to early July

Places to go: Keiselburg Forest Preserve - check in the brushy edges around the southernmost shelter house. Last year they were in the second growth behind the outhouse. Rock Cut State Park - search the southeastern edges of the big restored prairie that the North entrance road passes through.

Tips to find and identify: Bells Vireo occurs sporadically in the county. We do not know of any spots that it uses for nesting with regularity. The chattering, bubbly song is distinctive. The birds are subtly colored and lack any outstanding field marks.

Special cautions: Please dont disturb nesting birds!
